Ableton Live Set (.als) Inspector & Parser

Peek inside your Ableton Live projects without opening the DAW. This specialized tool parses `.als` project files (which are Gzipped XML) directly in the browser to reveal metadata, track lists, and used plugins. It is a lifesaver for producers who need to check which VSTs are required for a project, or for archiving session details without launching Ableton Live.

How it Works

  • 1Drag and drop your `.als` file into the drop zone.
  • 2The tool locally decompresses the GZIP stream.
  • 3It parses the internal XML structure to extract key data.
  • 4View a summary of Tracks, VST/AU Plugins, and Tempo.
  • 5Export the manifest as JSON or copy to clipboard.

Key Features

Full Live 12 support — correctly identifies native devices (Utility, Analog, Electric, Auto Pan, and more).
Lists all third-party plugins (VST2, VST3, AU) and Max for Live devices.
Extracts Tempo, Time Signature, and Global Groove.
Displays Track names and colors.
100% Client-side parsing — your .als file never leaves your device.

Common Use Cases

Collaboration: Send a full plugin manifest to a collaborator before sharing a project.Sample library tagging: Export the JSON manifest and attach it to your project folder for searchable archiving.Troubleshooting: Identify which plugin is crashing a project loop without opening the DAW.Inventory: Audit which VSTs and native devices you use most across your sessions.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about using this tool effectively and securely.

Q.Can it open corrupted projects?

If the GZIP header is intact, it can often read the XML even if Ableton crashes on load, helping you identify the problematic plugin.

Q.Why don't I see native devices like Utility or Analog?

Ableton Live 12 changed the internal XML class names for native devices (e.g. Utility is stored as 'StereoGain', Analog as 'UltraAnalog'). This tool detects them by their preset structure rather than tag name, so all built-in devices appear correctly regardless of Live version.
