Introduction

CleanTextLab ("we", "our", or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our website cleantextlab.com and our tools.

Please read this privacy policy carefully. If you do not agree with the terms of this privacy policy, please do not access the site.

Privacy-First Philosophy

Most importantly: All text processing tools run entirely in your browser. Your input data is never uploaded to our servers unless you explicitly choose an opt-in feature such as "Email Results", "Share Link", or "Cloud History Sync".

  • Text processing happens client-side (in your browser)
  • No data is transmitted to our servers during normal tool usage
  • Your data stays on your device unless you opt-in to sharing features
  • Cloud History Sync is optional, uses client-side encryption (keys derived on device), and can be disabled anytime

Information We Collect

1. Information You Provide

  • Account Information: When you create an account (via Clerk), we collect your name, email address, and authentication credentials.
  • Contact Forms: When you submit a contact, support, or bug report form, we collect your name, email, and message content.
  • Payment Information: When you subscribe to Pro, payment processing is handled by Stripe. We do not store your full credit card information.
  • Shared Content: When you use "Share Link" or "Email Results" features, we temporarily store the shared content.
  • Cloud History Sync (Opt-in): If you enable cloud sync, encrypted history blobs (inputs/outputs) are stored in Redis with retention limits (Free: 30 days, Pro: 90 days). Encryption happens client-side; we cannot decrypt your data.
  • API Keys: If you redeem or retrieve a Pro API key, we store the key and plan metadata (plan, price interval) to validate usage.

2. Information Automatically Collected

  • Analytics Data: We use Google Analytics to collect anonymous usage data (page views, browser type, device type, geographic location).
  • Cookies: We use cookies for authentication, preferences (theme selection), and analytics.
  • Log Data: Our hosting provider (Vercel) automatically logs IP addresses, browser type, and access times for security purposes.

3. Information NOT Collected

  • Tool Input Data: Text you process with our tools is NOT sent to our servers (unless you use opt-in sharing features).
  • Browsing History: We do not track your browsing activity outside of cleantextlab.com.
  • Device Fingerprinting: We do not use aggressive tracking techniques.
  • Cloud History Keys: Encryption keys for cloud sync are derived client-side and never leave your device.

How We Use Your Information

  • Provide Services: Operate and maintain the website, process payments, provide customer support.
  • Improve Services: Analyze usage patterns to improve tools and add new features.
  • Communicate: Send transactional emails (receipts, support responses), and optional marketing emails (you can opt-out).
  • Security: Detect and prevent fraud, abuse, and security incidents.
  • Legal Compliance: Comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms of Service.

Data Storage and Retention

  • Local History: Stored in your browser's localStorage (never sent to our servers).
  • Cloud History Sync (Opt-in): Encrypted history stored in Redis with auto-deletion (Free: 30 days, Pro: 90 days). We cannot decrypt it.
  • Shared Links: Stored for 30 days, then automatically deleted.
  • Account Data: Retained until you delete your account.
  • Contact Forms: Stored in our email system (support@cleantextlab.com) indefinitely for support purposes.
  • Payment Records: Retained for 7 years for tax and accounting compliance.
  • Email Captures: Stored up to 90 days for “email results” follow-ups.
